Minami Aoyama Shimizu-yu

Established before 1903 (Meiji 36)

Over 100 years since its founding. A long-established public bath and sauna continuing in Aoyama, Tokyo

Aoyama, a district with traditional spots like Meiji Jingu Gaien and Baisouin, as well as luxury brand stores from overseas, is home to Minami Aoyama Shimizu-yu, which has been in operation for over 100 years. The interior, with the concept of “providing complete relaxation,” is very bright and full of cleanliness.
The bath uses soft water, which is gentle on the skin and beneficial for health, as well as having potential beauty effects. Recently, though irregularly, they have held “hot spring experience events” where visitors can try hot springs from all over Japan, making the public bath accessible to people of all ages. In the past, events like the “Tour of Famous Japanese Hot Springs” have also been held.

At Shimizu-yu, the sauna is also popular. Sweating thoroughly in two types of saunas with different characteristics and then enjoying a drink afterwards is a supreme pleasure. The current owner of Shimizu-yu is Masataka Okura, the fourth generation, who runs the bath daily with a strong desire not to let public baths disappear from Aoyama in these times when they are rapidly vanishing.

History

At its founding, the bath operated near the current Watarium Museum, but due to the construction of Gaien Nishi Street (Aoyama Killer Street) for the 1964 Tokyo Olympics, it was relocated in 1962 to its current location. In 2008, the fourth-generation owner Masataka Okura renovated the facility.

High-concentration carbonated spring & silk bath

720ml 2,970 yen

The high-concentration carbonated spring is expected to improve skin firmness for beauty and prevent skin aging through enhanced blood circulation. The silk bath, characterized by its milky water, contains ultra-fine bubbles that penetrate the pores and remove impurities deep within the skin. Both baths are specialized for beauty and health.

Sauna

At Shimizu-yu, you can enjoy two types of saunas: a comfort sauna with a gentle temperature to slowly warm the body, and a rocky sauna that uses far-infrared rays from stones. Why not refresh your body in your preferred sauna?
