Paris Ogawaken Shimbashi Branch

Founded in Meiji 38 (1905)

The original Raisin Witch, loved across generations

When it comes to the “Original Raisin Witch,” loved for its perfect balance of cookie, raisins, and cream and popular as a Tokyo souvenir or gift, Paris Ogawaken comes to mind. Each item is carefully baked at the company’s own workshop in Meguro, and only products that pass strict checks—from ingredient condition and selection to baking level—are sold in the shop.

Ogawaken originally ran a Western-style restaurant, but it was the second-generation owner, Jun Ogawa, who began producing and selling Western sweets. His guiding principle was the policy, “80% ingredients, 20% skill.”No matter how skilled you are, the quality of a product is determined by the ingredients. That is why the teaching of thoroughly selecting ingredients and creating safe, delicious, and fresh sweets is still carefully upheld today.

For example, fruit past its peak season is not used.Artificial flavorings and synthetic colorings are avoided as much as possible. From production to sales, Paris Ogawaken staff handle everything and deliver products to customers with responsibility. For both fresh cakes and baked goods, expiration dates are set short so they can be enjoyed while delicious. The sizes and quantities are also planned to be easy to finish.

There are two shops: the Shimbashi branch and the Meguro branch. Both have an adjoining salon de thé where guests can enjoy tea, filled with laughter from people buying baked sweets and enjoying a relaxed tea time.

History

In Meiji 38 (1905), the first-generation owner, Tetsugoro Ogawa, opened the Western-style restaurant “Ogawaken” in Shimbashi. In the mid-Showa period, the second-generation Jun Ogawa and his younger brother Akira created the prototype of the Raisin Witch, now a signature item of Paris Ogawaken, to sell Western sweets alongside the restaurant.Later, the completed Raisin Witch and other Western sweets were made independent, giving birth to “Paris Ogawaken.”(The photo shows the shop as it was in Taisho 12.)
