Blown Glass: Mysterious Forms, Wonders of Technique

Holding period

2023.04.22 〜 2023.06.25

Focusing on distinctive blown glass from the East and West

Glassblowing is a technique in which hot, molten glass is blown into a vessel by blowing into it and inflating it like a balloon. This is a technique unique to glass that takes advantage of the properties of the glass material.

This exhibition focuses on such blown glass, displaying unique pieces from the East and West, such as the “Triple Jar” made in the Eastern Mediterranean region in the 2nd and 3rd centuries, and the “Lace Glass Footed Bowl” made in Italy in the 16th and 17th centuries.

In addition to this, the results of research conducted in collaboration with contemporary glass artists and researchers are also presented. Visitors can see and feel the works from the maker’s point of view, and rediscover the appeal of blown glass.
Events include a lecture by glass art historian Inoue Akiko and exhibition lectures by curators.
