New Year’s Day is a time for viewing artwork with the theme of the Chinese zodiac rabbit.
Celebrating the New Year at the museum, this annual event features works on the theme of “Rabbit,” the Chinese zodiac sign for 2023, as well as the National Treasure “Pine Trees” by Hasegawa Tohaku (on display from January 2 to 15), and many other auspicious works and masterpieces to welcome in the New Year.
Among them, the special feature “The Year of the Rabbit,” is a unique project featuring East Asian figurative works with the motif of rabbits. Visitors can view a variety of rabbits from five different angles: “Rabbit, Rabbit in the Moon,” “Rabbit on the Wave,” “Where is the Rabbit?
At the main gate, there will be an ikebana exhibition by Ikenobo Shigenobu Kura and a bargain sale of art books. Visit the Tokyo National Museum to start the New Year.
