Commemorating the 150th anniversary of the birth of Itaya Hazan, a master of modern ceramics. Itaya Hazan is known for his many elegant and prestigious ceramic works. One of his masterpieces, the “Porcelain Vase with Rare Fruit Design,” designated as an Important Cultural Property, was purchased in 1917 by Sumitomo Shunsui, the 15th head of the Sumitomo family, who loved Hazan’s works, and was handed down to the Izumiya Hakkokan Tokyo.
In addition to his works, ceramic shards that were destroyed after trial and error and other valuable materials tracing his life will be exhibited. In addition, events such as the special dialogue “Talking about Itaya Hazan – Beautiful Works and Life” and the lecture “Meiji Design and Itaya Hazan” will be held (advance reservations required).
