Nakatani Seika is a long-established karinto manufacturer founded in Taisho 8 (1919).With advanced techniques, they achieve a light and crispy texture in their karinto.They are well known for karinto made with Yanagikubo wheat, known as the “phantom wheat.”With the determination to “make karinto worthy of our predecessors,” they produce delicious karinto every day.As fewer young people eat karinto today, they also deliver karinto free of charge to about 300 children’s cafeterias nationwide.
While a long-established company, they constantly take on new challenges, and in March 2023 they completed rice-flour karinto developed jointly with MNH, which works on the SDGs.In April 2023, they also worked on products such as “Takaozan Karinto,” developed jointly with Tokyo Kasei Gakuin University and sold at Takaosan Yakuoin Temple.
At the company shop on the factory grounds, they sell not only karinto but also rice crackers and assorted outlet items at good prices.

History

The founder, who originally served as head of bread production at Shinjuku Nakamuraya, developed easy-to-eat karinto using fermentation techniques learned there.The company was established in Yayoi-cho, Nakano Ward, and later moved its factory to Wada, Suginami Ward.Manufacturing began in Higashikurume City in Showa 41 (1966) and continues to this day.They have continued making karinto for three generations.

Yanagikubo Karinto, Almond

Made with “phantom wheat,” Yanagikubo wheat harvested in Higashikurume City.This item is coated with white sugar and almonds.Chopped almonds are generously added to a mildly sweet syrup, creating a fun texture.Like the “Yanagikubo Karinto, Brown Sugar,” this product features a light texture made possible by Nakatani Seika’s advanced techniques.
