Meaning of “Unaju” and “Unadon”. What’s the difference?(unazyu/unadon)

multi-tiered food boxmisjudgementbowl of rice with food on toploach or eel dipped and broiled in soy-based sauce

Una-don” is a bowl of rice topped with broiled eel and rice, and “unaju” is a stacked box of rice topped with broiled eel. The only difference between the two is the container. Unaju is generally more expensive, but this is simply due to the larger quantity of eel served. There is no difference in the quality of the eel used. When the eating culture of broiled eel spread in the Edo period (1603-1867), only bowls of eel were used, but in the Meiji period (1868-1912), the use of heavy-weight boxes as containers began, as they were less likely to get cold and easier to transport when delivering food.
