A brilliant “theory of landscape” with photographs unique to Shoji Ueda
A photography exhibition featuring the works of Shoji Ueda, one of Japan’s leading photographers. Mr. Ueda is a photographer who has remained in his native San-in region all his life, taking photographs with a playful and vigorous spirit of experimentation that is penetrated by his amateurism. The works created with his unique sensibility are highly acclaimed beyond the boundaries of time and national borders.
The “Bess Single” in the event name refers to the “Best Pocket Kodak” camera with a single lens. By removing the hood of the lens filter of the Bess Single lens, a unique soft-focus (soft focus) effect can be achieved.
This event will feature 40 works from the photo book “White Wind” (published by Nippon Camera in 1981), a series of photographs of Japanese landscapes that revives the “Besshoku” photographic technique using color photography. The works are valuable prints that were used as manuscripts for the printing of the book at the time and have been kept in storage, and this is the first time they will be shown as a photographic exhibition.
