A gorgeous and lucky Hagoita for the end of the year.

The “Year’s Fair” is held every year from December 17 to 19 in the precincts of Sensoji Temple. Stalls selling “Oshie Hagoita” (wooden shuttlecock boards made of paulownia wood and decorated with oshie) line the grounds of Sensoji Temple.
The feathers of the shuttlecock resemble dragonflies that eat insects, which is associated with “eating bad insects,” or the beans on the tips of the feathers with “being able to live a blistering life,” which is considered a good luck charm.
Oshie Hagoita is completed by craftsmen using nearly 70 materials and going through many processes until completion. Typical Hagoita include “Kyogenmono” from Kabuki plays and “Mitatemono” depicting beautiful women in dancing costumes. The “Seisou Hagoita,” which depicts the year’s celebrities, politicians, and athletes, is also a specialty, and is a topic of conversation every year.
The stall owner will also give a lucky sanbonjime to the purchaser. Purchasing a beautiful Hagoita board with bright colors will bring you good luck!
