All national treasures and other selected masterpieces from the Seikado collection are on display.
This year marks the 130th anniversary of the Seikado, a library and art museum founded by Yanosuke Iwasaki (Yataro’s younger brother, Mitsubishi’s 2nd president) and Koyata Iwasaki (Mitsubishi’s 4th president), and the relocation of the gallery from Okamoto, Setagaya, to the first floor of Meiji Seimei Kan, an important cultural asset in Marunouchi, Tokyo, in October 2022. This special exhibition will be held to commemorate the relocation.
In addition to all the national treasures in the Seikado collection, selected masterpieces such as tea ceremony utensils, Rimpa school works, Chinese calligraphy and paintings, ceramics, and swords will be exhibited under four different themes.
Must-see works include the National Treasures “Sekiya and Mio Sho, Tale of Genji” by Sotatsu Tawaraya (first half) and “Waves” by Hoitsu Sakai (second half). Paintings and artifacts from the elegant Song and Yuan dynasties in the first half of the exhibition and the bright and pure Ming and Qing dynasties in the second half will be on display.
