Exploring the DNA of Japanese contemporary art and its appeal

Dr. Ryutaro Takahashi, a psychiatrist, is one of Japan’s foremost art collectors. Mr. Takahashi’s collection of over 3,000 works, known as the “Ryutaro Takahashi Collection,” offers a comprehensive view of contemporary Japanese art.

This exhibition features a selection of approximately 40 works by about 30 of these artists. Works by artists such as Akira Yamaguchi, Tadanori Yokoo, Keisaburo Okamura, Tomoko Konoike, and Shio Suga will be introduced, with a focus on works that inherit cultural values while reinterpreting them from a unique perspective. At the same time, WHAT MUSEUM will hold a public production for the first time. Artist Masayoshi Nojo will create a new work in the public production space.

Exhibition-related events will also be held during the exhibition period. The museum’s “Architectural Warehouse” houses more than 600 architectural models entrusted by architects and design firms, some of which can also be viewed (admission to the Architectural Warehouse: 700 yen; set ticket: admission to the main exhibition + admission fee of 2,000 yen).
