100 famous views of SetagayacastleTokyo Metropolitan Government Designated Cultural PropertiesToyotomi Hideyoshi

The park occupies the area around the southeastern end of Setagaya Castle and is the only historical park in Setagaya Ward. It is said that Setagaya Castle was originally built by the Kira clan in the Nanbokudo period (14th century), when the first Kira clan received the Setagaya fief in Musashi Province from Ashikaga Motoji, the Kanto governor. 1590 (Tensho 18), when Toyotomi Hideyoshi destroyed the Hojo clan in Odawara, the castle was closed because the Kira clan was also related to the Hojo clan. In the park, long and narrow earthen mounds and moats, as well as a wall rising high above the ground, still remain today. The area is covered with a lot of greenery and has been selected as a Tokyo Metropolitan Government-designated cultural asset and one of the Setagaya 100 scenic spots. The nearby Gotokuji Temple, which is associated with the Kira clan, is also a good place to visit as a set.
