This famous temple in Nakano Ward, which was selected as one of the New Tokyo 100 sceneries in 1982, is also the name of the station. The fifth child of Tokugawa Hidetada, Kazuko, prayed to Yakushi Nyorai, the main deity of Umeshoin, for healing of an eye disease, and was healed. The day falling on the 8th of each month is also a day associated with Yakushi Nyorai. During the cherry blossom season and New Year’s, the temple grounds are crowded with visitors and stalls.
