2: Hold the left and right ends of the yukata at the front of your body and align them so that the line of the yukata’s backstitching is in the center of your back.
3: Hold the right front with the right hand and bring it to the left hip.
4: Hold the left front with the left hand and bring it to the right hip.The left front is placed over the right front.
Raise the hem edge slightly to prevent it from becoming bare when the wearer moves.
5: Align the waistband with the hip bone and place the center of the cord in front of the hip bone.
The collar should be adjusted so that the hollow of the throat can be seen.
6: After turning the waistband while crossing it on the back side, pull it tight diagonally downwards so that it falls forward from the back to the lower abdomen.
If this strap is loose, it will easily become bare, so the key is to tighten it firmly.
7: Tie the waist belt at a position closer to the right when viewed from you.
8: Wrap the excess waistband around the waistband so that it is not visible from the outside.
How to tie an obi – men’s version~
Men’s obis, called kaku obis, are used for men.First, you should master the typical “shell mouth”.Do not tie it high, but tie it at the hip bone.
1: Fold one side of the obi in two from the middle to make it half as wide as the other side, then take a 25 cm length as a “te”.
2: With the crease down, hold the base of the “te” with your right hand and wrap the obi around the body in three coils, spreading it out gradually.
3: Extend the “te” and hold the excess sash (this is called tare).
Fold the “tare” inward a little further than the extended “te”.
4: Cross your arms in front of your body with the “tare” on top and the “te” on the bottom.
5: Pass the “tare” under the “te” and tie tightly.
6: Lower the “tare” downwards.
7: Fold the “tare” inward to form a circle, and fold it into a triangle.
8: Pass the “te” through the loop and pull it toward the upper left. Pull firmly so that the obi does not come undone.
9: Holding the obi with both hands, shift it to the right and turn it to the back, being careful not to expose the yukata.
10: When the knot reaches a position slightly to the left of the back side, it is finished.
