Imperial Palace(Imperial Palace)
Originally the residence of the Tokugawa Shogunate (Edo Castle), it was turned over to the new government in 1868 (the first year of Meiji) and became the residence of the Emperor. It was originally called Miyagi (Palace), but in 1948, the name Miyagi was dropped and it became known as the Imperial Palace. On January 2 and the Emperor’s Birthday, a public visit to the Imperial Palace is held, and visitors can enter from the Imperial Palace Square through the Main Gate and Nijubashi Bridge to the front of the Imperial Palace. The entrance to the Imperial Palace is through the Main Gate and Nijubashi Bridge from the Imperial Palace Square.
