This famous eel restaurant appears in many literary works, including Natsume Soseki’s I Am a Cat.The grilled eel is prepared with a secret sauce that has been refined for over 100 years.The eel is split open from the back, skewered, thoroughly steamed, and then grilled while being coated with the sauce.The light, smooth sauce and the fragrant grilled eel blend perfectly, creating a flavor widely praised by customers.In Michelin Guide Tokyo 2008, the first edition published in Japan, it was the only eel restaurant to receive one Michelin star.In addition to eel dishes, their sea bream chazuke is also famous, attracting many customers who visit just for that.The detached section has private tatami rooms, ideal for business meetings, celebrations, and other occasions.

History

A long-established eel restaurant founded in the late Edo period.Originally a sword storage shop, it began serving sake and grilled eel after the abolition of the sword-carrying law in 1876.The original store was destroyed in the Great Kanto Earthquake and moved to its current location in Ginza 8-chome in 1925.Even today, the restaurant preserves its old charm, offering the same traditional flavors as when it was founded.
