Atago Shrine(Atago- Shrine)

Located at the top of Mt. Atago, the highest mountain in Tokyo’s 23 wards at 26 meters above sea level, the main deity of the shrine is the fire deity Homusubinomikoto, who was founded in 1603 by Tokugawa Ieyasu, the founder of the Edo shogunate, as the god of fire prevention and was revered by the shogunate. Although the shrine buildings were destroyed by fire during the Great Kanto Earthquake and the air raids of World War II, they were rebuilt after the war and are beloved by many as a god of fire prevention and fireproofing, and as an oasis in the heart of the city.
